The Mount Washington Valley Housing Coalition has promoted affordable housing in the Mount Washington Valley since 2006. They argue that affordable housing is not the vision that many people have of Section 8 and broken down cars. Affordable housing is not something this area should shy away from as increasing the supply of housing will benefit the local economy and improve the work-life balance of people who work in the local service industry.
This is a group I look forward to engaging with as The Local Housing Project moves forward. The MWV Housing Coalition is made of people who have been in the valley for years and know how things work and who can affect change. They know local zoning ordinances and have the ability to affect change through advocacy. They have resources at the government level and collaborate to increase available funding aimed at affordable housing and to pass housing-friendly legislation.
In addition to advocating affordable housing at higher levels, this coalition also helps people to find housing through connecting prospective tenants with real estate agents who work with rentals or providing links to Facebook and Craigslist housing pages. The more people who live close to where they work the better this community will become. I encourage you to check out the MWV Housing Coalition and support them through a donation or using the resources they provide to find housing for yourself.
